Island Blue, Santorini: Do you believe in destiny?

Oia three churches view

A last-minute plan (by us)

A last-minute cancellation (by someone else)

A helpful visa officer (at the Greek consulate)

And here we are… Enjoying this gorgeous view as we have breakfast on our own little private terrace.

Santorini has been on my Pinterest ‘Places to Visit’ board for the longest time… And we have finally made it!

It’s every bit as breathtaking as we imagined. And staying at the Island Blue, makes it even more special.

(UPDATED) Why, you ask?

#1 The view

The iconic vista of the three blue-domes churches of Oia looks back at you from your private verandah and terrace. Throngs of tourists flock to take this photo, sneakily trespassing on “private property”, while you enjoy your breakfast, book or bubbly soaking it all in, in comfort.

#2 The decor

The blue and white of the island, is charmingly recreated in the interiors of the apartment as well, leaving you with a sense of serenity and a feeling of ‘having the outdoors, indoors’ as you retreat to your indoor Jacuzzi to escape the afternoon heat.

#3 The facilities

The vacation rental comes with a fully stocked kitchen and larder – complete with bottles of water, bread, eggs, snacks, complimentary wines, etc. and thoughtfully provided extras like salt, pepper, butter, oil, etc. To take it a step further – daily laundry and housekeeping services and provided by a friendly staff. No lugging groceries or looking for laundromats or trying to make your own bed. So it is real “vacation” for you.

#4 The extras

Louanna, the owner, is a fabulous hostess. She will provide a hand-drawn map of the island, recommendations on things to do and restaurants to visit, take you on a guided tour of the island (if you so desire) and secure coveted reservations – e.g. front row seats at Sunsets restaurant to witness the splendid Oia sunset (not to be missed).

I would absolutely recommend this charming little traditional cave house, to anyone looking for a place to stay in Santorini.
